Cervantes Institute explores collaboration with Dominican Government

Santo Domingo.- The Cervantes Institute, dedicated to promoting Spanish language and culture globally, is exploring partnerships with the Dominican government. During the Santo Domingo International Book Fair, Director Luis García Montero met with Vice President Raquel Peña and Culture Minister Milagros Germán to discuss initiatives, which were warmly received.

Plans include collaborating with the Dominican organization Educa and the government to enhance foreign language education and teacher training. The Institute aims to integrate Dominican culture into its global network, fostering agreements with local universities for Spanish certification exams and improving teaching standards.

Highlighting Spanish’s global significance, with 500 million native speakers and 600 million total speakers worldwide, García Montero emphasized the importance of strengthening ties between Spanish and Latin American cultures. A recent Cervantes Chair established in Puerto Rico exemplifies ongoing regional collaboration.
